Health checks & Screening

for potential illness

To stop the spread of illness, all Keaukaha Elementary students and staff MUST stay at home if they are

feeling sick.

Parents are encouraged to do wellness checks on their child each morning at home to determine if the child

should attend school. The wellness check should include the following observations:

❏ Feverish or unusually warm (has flushed cheeks).

❏ If you are able to, use a thermometer to take your child’s temperature.

❏ Coughing and/or sneezing

❏ Sore throat

❏ Shortness of breath and/or difficulty breathing

❏ Headaches and/or stomach ache and/or nausea

❏ Muscle pain and/or unusual fatigue

❏ New loss of taste and/or smell

Keaukaha Elementary will screen employees, students and authorized visitors for overt signs of illness in a safe and respectful manner. The purpose of the screening is to look for general symptoms of illness. Several staff members will be designated to perform the screening daily.

Upon arrival to campus, an interview and visual inspection of all individuals (from at least 6 feet away) will be

done using the following symptom checklist:

❏ Feverish or unusually warm (has flushed cheeks)

❏ Coughing and/or sneezing

❏ Sore throat

❏ Shortness of breath and/or difficulty breathing

❏ Headaches and/or stomach ache and/or nausea

❏ Muscle pain and/or unusual fatigue

❏ New loss of taste and/or smell

When a student becomes ill or is suspected of being sick, the student will be sent to the Health Room.

● The student’s parent or guardian will be called to pick up the student.

● The student will be placed in a supervised, isolated area until he/she is picked up, especially if the

student is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

Any student sent home due to illness should be excluded from school until symptom-free for at least 24 hours

(ideally 72 hours) without use of medication.
