School Community Council

School Community Councils (SCC) play a vital role in the education system in Hawaii. They provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and school performance. In 2004, the Hawaii State Legislature took significant steps to ensure that parents, through their School Community Councils, would have greater influence in their children's education. The main purpose is to improve student achievement and enhance accountability of the education system to the public.

 

SCCs are able to make recommendations to their principal on academic and financial matters. Principals, in turn, are able to consult with SCCs on a variety of issues that affect student learning. The principal must also consider recommendations made by the SCC for school improvement and report back to the SCC on how they plan to act on their advice. 

 

All Hilo Complex Public Schools have developed new School Community Councils (SCC), which replaced the SCBM's as part of the Educational Act 51. Members will serve for a two year term beginning in 2016 - 2017 SY. Members are:
